In the world of Meropolis, there are some subtle and clear hints of LGBT Themes. In other words, there are LGBT characters and scenes that have been cleverly hidden or hinted at to avoid problems later.

Below is a list of references in the following books:

TSOK[]

  • Malena is revealed in the beginning to be a closet homosexual, as she reveals to Quinn she is attracted to the tavern owner's daughter.
  • Quinn is bisexual, which will be explored later in WOTS.
  • All characters have a sexual identity, with the two most common being asexual and heterosexual.
  • Some characters are directly hinted to be LGBT, such as Malencheine and Cori. Both are asexual, and it is stated "they didn't seem very interested in romance of any kind." Despite being asexual, Malencheine married a female merwolf named Corquanta, and even self-fertilized his own son.
    • Cori also refuses to identify with gender pronouns, but they are physically male.
  • Merwolves are hermaphroditic in nature and can self-fertilize, or essentially produce babies without the help of a mate/spouse. They have both male and female hormones, but no visible genitals, although they are certainly there.
  • Crystalline's sexual orientation is unknown. Although she is married to Markahlihnni, it is slightly hinted she did not previously court males in the past, and Merlin says he "did not expect Crystalline to be interested in his son." It can be assumed she is bisexual or perhaps even pansexual, but that has yet to be explored in future installments.

WOTS[]

  • Quinn's bisexuality will be explored a bit further in this book.

Trivia[]

  • Some characters will have a hidden LGBT status that won't be explored for quite some time. Their identities are going to be kept hidden to avoid spoilers.
    • Aside from Malena, any other gay characters are unknown. S. knows who they are.
  • It is not possible for Mermaids or Mermen to be LGBT, as they do not have the same beliefs as the sentient Mer of Meropolis do. They are more animal than human, so the beliefs do not apply to them in the same way.
  • Merwolves and Mercats will never be anything but asexual or heterosexual. They simply do not feel attracted to the same sex, and if they did, it would be a strong sin of the beliefs Elire made for them. A saying Merlin would likely say about it would be, "Only two forms exist: attraction to the opposite pronoun, or no attraction at all."
